Junior Infants Room 2: Fruity Photos

This week Junior Infants have been reading a great story called ‘Handa’s Surprise’. In the beginning of the story, Handa wanted to bring her friend Akeyo seven special fruits. In the middle of the story, something happened to her fruit, but at the end of the story, Handa got a big suprise! Can you remember what it was? The class have been very busy weighing Handa’s fruit for her in their scales and Fruit and Vegetable Shop, seeing which fruits are heavier and which are lighter, acting out Handa’s Surprise using their masks, counting from 0-7, and helping Handa to weave new baskets to hold her fruit. In return, Handa gave the class some of her fruit to print with! Junior Infants have also been learning about where our food comes from, and have been looking at different food from around the world, comparing their breakfasts with other children from around the world! Vinny the class teddy was so impressed with all their hard work this week that he left them a present – they got to taste some of Handa’s fruit, and decide which was their favourite fruit- mango, pineapple, mandarin or avacado! Junior Infants Room 2: Build, Weigh, Birth-day!

This week Room 2 have been busy building with their construction blocks and weighing things on their scales. They carried out lots of experiments, guessing whether objects would be heavier or lighter, and got very creative with their lunches, comparing the weight of their snacks in the photo below (heavy arms go down, light arms go up!) Following on from all their shadow catching and making last week, they made wonderful day time and night time drawings, comparing the colours that we see in the day and the night. They learnt how to recount, by telling their class where they were, who they were with, and what they did over the weekend. They also looked at pictures of themselves as babies, added their birthdays to their class birthday chart, and discussed all the different things that they can do now that they are in Junior Infants, that they couldn’t do when they were babies! Junior Infants Room 2: Shapes and Shadows

This week Room 2 made lots of wonderful patterns by weaving, using peg boards, and even created their own 2D shape bunting for their classroom. At the beginning they put red square, in the middle came green triangle and yellow circle, and at the end came blue rectangle. They experimented with the light from the sun and their torches to create shadows and shadow animals. They painted their faces in art and worked together to make ‘group drawings’ with their new friends at school. Room 2 were also visited by the Junior Infants in Room 1 who taught them a song about Eid, and all the Junior Infants from Rooms 1, 2 and 5 created lovely moon and star displays to celebrate! Junior Infants Room 2: Ready for Lift Off!

The Junior Infants in Room 2 were very busy this week exploring ‘family’ as a theme, and experimenting with 2D shapes. They made puppets and performed ‘The Five Little Ducks’ in their puppet theatre. They crafted their own 2D shape crowns, acted out ‘Jack and Jill’, and made and illustrated their own ‘Jack and Jill’ picture books to read to their families, exploring how we can use pictures to tell a story as well as words.  Room 2 created their own bear family with 2D shapes, and a reporter came and interviewed the Room 2 bears about how they felt about Goldilocks eating their porridge, sitting in their chairs, and sleeping in their beds! They helped to sort out Jack and Jill’s buckets for them, and to order all of the bears’ bowls, chairs, and beds! They also taught Vinny the class teddy bear how to sing and act out the ‘Teddy Bear Teddy Bear’ song.   For more photos of fun in the classroom please click...
