Senior Infants Room 4: School Tour

We had a fantastic day at Lullymore Heritage Park on Friday. It was so exciting to travel in a coach. When we arrived we had a quick snack and then off to the playground! Afterwards we split up into small groups and took part in the different activities. We went on a train, jumped on a bog, visited a fairy village and made a wish. What a busy day! Senior Infants Room 4: Shadows

We have been learning about shadows in Science this week. We drew our shadows in the yard at little break. When we went back to our shadows at big break we noticed that they had moved! We tested different objects to see if they would make good shadows. Objects that made good shadows included books, cardboard boxes, copies and pieces of paper. These objects are opaque, this means that light cannot pass through them. Objects that do not make good shadows are called translucent as some light can pass through. Some of the these objects include freezer bags, netting and clear plastic containers. We had great fun testing different objects! Please click here to see more...

Senior Infants Room 4: Story Cubes

We have been writing our own stories over the past few weeks. We have been using story cubes to help us write our stories. Today we rolled the story cubes to find out what characters and which setting we would be writing about. We had a choice between a princess and a cat as our characters and a house and under the sea as our settings. We always begin our stories with One day. There is always a problem in our story and we also need to solve this problem. We wrote some very interesting stories!     Please click here to see some more...

Senior Infants Room 4: It’s all about the Books

We had a fantastic week during Literacy Week. On Wednesday we dressed up as our favourite character from a book. There were pirates, princesses, Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf all listening to stories read by two of our Mums. It was brilliant to see all of the children listening to the different stories. Today we bought our very own book, it was very exciting! We also went up to the amazing school library to pick some books and read through some wonderful stories. Please click here to see some more photos of Literacy...

Senior Infants Room 4: Special Visitors

The children in Room 4 were very excited about the special visitors that came to our classroom on Wednesday. We were very lucky to welcome several grandparents as part of our Grandparent’s Day celebrations.  We had written some questions to ask the grandparents – we asked them what they ate for lunch in school, did they have computers, what was their teacher’s name and did they have lettuce when they were small. It was lovely to see the bridging of generations in the classroom. We sang an Irish song and said a poem for all of the grandparents at the end of their visit. We hope they enjoyed the morning as much as we did! A very big thank you to all of our visiting grandparents.   Please click here to see some more...

Senior Infants Room 4: Maths 4 Fun

We were very lucky to have some of our Mums and Dads helping us out last week. On Thursday Room 4 hosted Maths 4 Fun. The Mums and Dads showed us how to play lots of interesting maths games like Domino Car Park and Treasure Hunt. We would like to thank our volunteers as this event would not be possible without them. We are looking forward to this week! Please click here to see some more...
