Principal: Presentation on School-Self Evaluatoin

Earlier this year, the school was very honoured to be asked by the inspectorate in the Department of Education and Skills to present on an initiative we had developed in the school last year. This presentation will be of interest to teachers and principals in other primary and post-primary schools looking to improve ways that teachers interact professionally with one another. Professional Collaborative Review is an initiative devised by the principals of Community National Schools with the support of the inspectorate. It has been a huge success in the schools it was rolled out in. I was asked to speak about the experience of teachers in Citywest & Saggart CNS at a National Conference on the topic of school self-evaluation last October. Please see below the link to my own presentation and those of the 3 other principals asked to speak about best practice in their own schools.  ...

Senior Infants Room 5: Learning about time

Room 5 have been learning about time this week. We talked about the different times of the day – morning, afternoon, evening and night-time. We wrote about some of the things that we do at these times. Today we made our own clocks. We decorated them and the hands on our clock can even move around. Next week we are going to practise telling the time. Please click here to see some more photos....

Principal: Decision Time!

I would like to wish you all the vey best for 2015. This year will be a very exciting year for many families as their child prepares for their formal education journey in September. This can be a stressful time for many parents as they try to choose which school best suits their needs. Choosing a school for your child is one of the most important decisions you will make for your child. It is extremely important that you fully trust whichever school you choose to do the best for your child. We are very lucky in this area to have such a great choice of school. Parents are wise to put their child’s name down in a number of schools in case they are unable to get a place in their first school of choice. To help parents make an informed decision, the local schools have agreed January 30th as their closing date for applications and offer letters will be sent out from all schools on the same day at the beginning of February. This way, you know what your actual choices are and are able to make a firm decision. We will be holding an information meeting on Thursday, 15th January at 8 p.m. for anyone who is interested in finding out more about our school. This will be a great opportunity for you to hear about our school and our ethos and ask questions. There will also be an opportunity to walk around the school and see what life in our classrooms looks like. We are delighted with our temporary school building but we were thrilled to...

Principal: Adult Education Classes

I am delighted that our patron, Dublin and Dun Laoghaire Education and Training Board (DDLETB) has been good enough to provide more adult education classes in the new year. These classes are free. The only money we require is enough to cover tea, coffee, milk and treats for you during the classes and art equipment for those taking the Arts and Crafts classes.   We have been lucky enough to get funding again for Arts and Crafts, English language and new to us this term is Irish language classes for parents. I am delighted to be able to provide these Irish language classes as many parents struggle to help their children with this part of the curriculum. There will be 8 classes in each area for 2 hours each. They will all take place in the Parents Room. They will be timetabled as follows: Irish Classes:          Tuesdays from 11.30 a.m. – 1.30 p.m. Arts and Crafts:     Thursdays from 9 a.m. – 11. a.m. English Claaes:      To be confirmed. Lastly, we are also going to provide a course for parents on how to help your children learn. This course will help you to make English and Maths learning more fun for your children. This will be a great opportunity for many of you to learn how best to support your children in their learning. Please ring Karen in the office to put your name down for these classes ASAP as places are limited and will be given out on a first come, first served basis. The dates will be confirmed soon and we will contact you once we find out. Lastly, taking part in...
